Description | In this course, you will come to understand significant characteristics and salient concepts of Korean society, people, and culture by exploring various social phenomena and issues in contemporary Korean society. Through engaging with a wide variety of materials and active discussion about Korean society and culture in depth, you will gain enhanced analytical and presentation skills. The course is designed to provide introductory knowledge of cultural traits, historical background, religion, language, gender, multiculturalism, and contemporary pop culture (the Korean wave) in Korea. In addition, you will have an opportunity to meet a guest speaker who will introduce the history of Korean traditional music and teach you some famous Korean traditional folk songs. Throughout the assignments and the discussion in class, you will be encouraged to develop and share your critical insights on diverse topics and issues, and to compare Korean society and culture with those of other countries from evolutionary and dynamic perspectives. |
