Description

Modern society is defined not by technological advancements but rather the thoughts and culture of the people that inhabit a country. This course, therefore, looks to examine and study how South Korea has developed in terms of its language, culture, and society over the past few decades to become one of the world’s most influential and important countries.

The course will examine language and culture and how this has affected South Korea while focusing on Korean modernity, the rise of civil society, political challenges, social media, and the Korean language.

Objective The course’s objective is to allow students to explore the language and culture of South Korea while developing a firmer understanding of how society has developed and what life is like for the people of the nation. Through the study of key issues, students will better grasp how culture and society is viewed through a South Korean lens and become more familiar with life in the country.
