Hanyang is a private university which was founded in 1939 during the Japanese occupation. Based on its motto and educational philosophy is Love in Deed and Truth, the university’s aim was to educate many engineers and technicians necessary for an independent Korea. The university established the nation’s first engineering institute (Dong-A Engineering Institute) in 1939 which became the founding facility of Hanyang University. It also established the first school of architecture and civil engineering in Korea.

In July 1948 Hanyang was the first university in Korea who had a four-year engineering college. Today, Hanyang is still renowned for its high level of education in engineering. It now has 23 colleges and 15 graduate school studies and has graduated over 300,000 students, as one of top universities in South Korea.

The main campus is in Seoul, and the second one, the Education Research Industry Cluster at Ansan, or ERICA campus, is located in Ansan. Hanyang (한양;漢陽) derives from the former name of the capital Seoul which was used during the Joseon Dynasty. The Hanyang University Seoul campus is conveniently located in central Seoul. This location provides international students with easy access to public transportation, which can be used to reach anywhere in and around Seoul.
