Hanyang International Summer School (HISS) 2026

Hanyang International Summer School (HISS) is a dynamic four-week program held annually at Hanyang University in Seoul, South Korea. It offers students from around the world the chance to experience academic life in Korea while earning transferable credits. With a wide range of over 90 courses taught in English, students can explore subjects in fields such as business, engineering, social sciences, Korean culture, and language.

Beyond academics, HISS provides a vibrant cultural experience through K-pop dance and Taekwondo classes, as well as exclusive club activities led by Hanyang University students. These student-run clubs allow international participants to dive deeper into the city’s hidden gems and authentic Korean college culture while building lasting friendships with both local and international peers.  

Special 2026 Highlight: The Jeju Island Experience

This year, in exclusive collaboration with Jeju National University, HISS is thrilled to announce that the final week of the program will be held on Jeju Island at no additional cost. Jeju is a UNESCO World Heritage site famous for its breathtaking volcanic landscapes, pristine beaches, and unique local traditions. This special week includes:

  • Complimentary Accommodations: Stay at provided housing in Jeju.
  • Cultural Immersive Programs & Special Lectures: Experience the island’s heritage and academic insights.
  • One-Way Flight Included: HISS provides a one-way flight from Seoul to Jeju Island for all participants.

Important Note on Travel Autonomy

The HISS 2026 program officially concludes on Jeju Island. To provide maximum flexibility for students who wish to explore the island further, travel to other regions of Korea, or head directly to their next destination, return flights from Jeju are not provided. Students are responsible for arranging their own transportation from Jeju Island after the program ends.

Admission Procedure

Eligibility Guidelines

  • Students who are currently enrolled in university-level (or higher) institution.
  • Students who hold a degree from a university-level (or higher) program.
    *As most courses are taught in undergraduate-level, students with a master’s degree (or higher) maybe restricted from participation.
  • Students who are admitted to a university-level institution.

Required Documents

  • Copy of Passport or Identification Document
    Legible photocopy in JPG or PDF format
  • Academic Transcript
    Certified version from home institution (must include Name, Student ID, University logo)

Completing the Payment After the application is successfully admitted, a payment instruction will be delivered through email. Students will be able to login to the application system and access the payment link directly.

※ As insufficient payment will not be accepted, please transfer the proper amount of money considering exchange rate and international bank transaction fees.

You are now officially a Hanyang Student!

Hanyang Student ID and password can be found on your online application form. You can log in using the ‘Login‘ button on the very top of each page.

Choose your desired courses via the Online Course Registration. You can find more information about course registration under “Courses” in the left sidebar menu.

This year, HIWS offers a few university-affiliated housing for students to choose from. Students may find the relevant information at “Housing” in the left sidebar menu.

It is the student’s responsibility to obtain the correct type of visa to participate in Hanyang International Winter School. As each country has different policies in visa management, please consult the Korean Embassy or Korean Consulate Office in your country for the proper visa type.

In general, students from a country or region where Korea has a visa-waiver agreement may participate in Hanyang International Winter School with the K-ETA (Korea Electronic Travel Authorization). You may check your eligibility by visiting the K-ETA website.

Students from countries that are excluded from the visa-waiver agreement program must apply for a short-term study Visa (D-2-8) at the Korean Embassy or Korean Consulate Office in the country you are currently studying at. Obtaining a Visa may be time-consuming and therefore we encourage students to start preparing for it as early as possible.

Students joining HIWS  will be able to join two different activities offered by Hanyang University.You can find the activities in the left sidebar menu.

Students must have international health insurance that covers possible injury and medical treatment during the program. Proof of Insurance must be submitted up to 2 weeks before the start of the program via the online application form. The document should include the information as follows:

  • Name of the insured
  • Period of coverage
  • Place of coverage

Failure to provide the document will result in termination of participation/enrollment in HIWS. Korean nationals who are already covered by the national health insurance should provide a copy of 의료보험증. For those who did not purchase the insurance, we encourage you to search online on home country travel insurance websites or to use the link on the right side (“Purchase Insurance”).
